Pupillary ruff: insight into the nervous system

Since the eye’s iris develops from the neurectoderm (which goes to form the nervous system in a developing baby), once the eye is fully
formed, the iris is the only place in the body where the nervous system
can be seen outside the body. This is seen in the form of the pupillary
ruff. This is a red-brown ruff around the pupil and it may be
thick or thin.
