Weird stats: On memory

If you listen passively to a talk/ seminar without taking notes, within 4 weeks you’ll remember 10% of what was said. This isnt to do with having a bad memory. It’s just because there is so much information in life, and so much new stimulation, that old information doesnt get retained.

If you take written notes from that talk/seminar, retention increases to 30-40% on average.

If you physically activate your body whilst you learn in the talk/seminar, by answering questions, asking questions, writing notes, engage with the speaker more – then you retain 80-90% of the information 4 weeks later, on average.

Adding emotion to information increases retention.
